ETA George Wagner has passed away

10:07 PM 08/06/2007

ETA George Wagner has passed away. I just got the call. They found him just a short while ago. More details as available. George lost his wife two years ago to cancer and George never got over it. I just spoke with him about the upcoming show tomorrow...and he was up for it and wanting to do more...looking forward to more shows...this is a terrible tragedy. We are just in shock.

  • A Tribute to a
Great Artist and My Uncle George Wagner- Gone too Soon

As I fight back the tears, I remember rich memories of you. It has been said
that your voice was smoother than Elvis. You had a rare talent that even the
Begees recognized and they thought you were the king.

You were a sweet man, a gentle soul. You were a true artist and not concerned with fame, but only wanted people to smile and have fun. I remember all the times we sang together. I would mix my brew and we would laugh and drink it before we sang. How I miss those times. You were a kindred soul in this way. I remember how you would give out teddy bears just to see people smile. You gave them to young, old, sick, and well. You sang at charities and any event where you could see people smile. I love you and wish you had just one more day to hear those words from the lips of all who truly do, but you left so suddenly. I am so sad to say we will not share those days again.

You are so young to be old and leave this world. You have not been the same since Linda lost her battle to cancer. Those who loved you could only watch as you went where we could not go. I think you had part of your soul on the other side since then and your flesh became weak like one who is without his soulmate and has lost them too soon. If I know my Aunt well enough then she would say everything is alright and that she never left you. It is sad the more of the world will not get to know the sweet spirit the way we did, but your heart is with her now as it always has been. The love the two of you shared is rare indeed. Never getting enough of each other and always wanting to do everything together. We teased you and said you guys were joined at the hip, but the truth was you were joined in spirit. You were soulmates. Age did not matter, time did not matter, nor wealth or fame.

At a moment like this, I wish I could convince the world that cherishing those we love is what matters. I wish I could have spoken more to you these recent days. Oh George, you had so much love to give- so much talent to share, but now I know that heaven has gained a mighty song bird. I can almost see you resting in Linda's arms and singing to her the way you did when she was ill- only now the songs will be joyous and free. I am sad you will be counted among those who were lost too soon and as we used to sing together, "wish you were
    here".

  • George:

I will miss you dearly. A kindred spirit. I cherished you as a brother and feel like I have lost my brother. I always looked forward to singing with you and will deeply feel your absence from the stage. I will keep your memory alive in my heart and when I sing. I will sing for you.

God bless you and your family as they too will always be apart of our family!

  • To the Wagner family,
I saw the show yesterday at the Ohio State Fair and it was a very good Elvis show but it was not you.

Doug Church is truly a decent man to have driven all the way and stood in for you. He is an excellent performer. He will do you justice in the future I am sure, because he looked up to you.

  • I would just like to say I didn't know George. As an ETA myself I completely respect the fact of Doug Church stepping in and taking over his show for him. My family and I would like to express our condolences to the Wagner family in there time of mourning. May God be with you through this time.

  • Though I did not know George personally, I did last year express my condolences to the young man for the loss of his lovely wife. Then, while in Boston this last week, I read where George himself passed away and again felt a true loss in the ETA world. I never had the pleasure of performing with George but through others knew he was a performer first, ETA second. God bless his family.
